When Lizzie McGuire graced morning, afternoon and late-evening slots on the international Disney channel, kids (especially the girls) went wild with the story and of course, the character that was brought to life: Lizzie McGuire. The then young and innocent Lizzie McGuire brought something organic and dynamic in the way she portrayed the often awkward Lizzie.

When Hillary Duff exploded into the movie scene with her debut Disney movie, everyone just loved it. At one point, even the movie critics were stating that Duff was portraying actual storylines that had a lot to do with herself, such as her “awkward” stage just before hitting her teen years.

When little fish can do really big things

Who would forget the cute Nemo from Finding Nemo? This feisty little fish showed just how a small guy can go out and conquer insurmountable odds with just plain willpower and very good friends. What makes Finding Nemo surprising was that it made use of very minimalist backdrops (mostly, the water from the Pacific) and yet the animation remained as enthralling as ever.

Coupled with the best illustrators and voice talents from Hollywood, Finding Nemo is indeed one of the few recent cult classics that would really survive the test of time.

Gadgets galore

Who says that Disney can’t handle a comical storyline and an underdog with no perceivable merits? When Inspector Gadget came out in 1999, people went nuts with the wonderful plethora of inventions and gizmos that the lonely crime fighter had to offer.

One important thing that the movie emphasized was that, in light of a tragedy, people can always turn their lives around for even something better. Brighter hopes and even brighter futures was the main aim of the story of Inspector Gadget and kids who grew up with the message of the movie soon realized that if they put their head and heart into something, 90% of the time they would succeed.

All about bugs in A Bug’s Life

One of the more enduring themes in Disney is making the small guys walk the walk and talk the talk. That’s right. Even bugs and small creatures get their say when Disney plans and implements storyboards right. This can be seen in the way the motley characters in A Bug’s Life became a big hit when it was released back in the old days.

One of the funniest characters in that movie was a lady bug that always reminded other people that he was in fact, a guy lady bug. He did so by being brusque, and by beating other insects up.

Come here for a little Toy Story

When Pixar came out with Toy Story in the middle of 1995, people were wondering what the story was actually all about. Was it like Pinocchio, the wooden toy who turned into a boy? Was it like Bambi, with friends so dear and true? Or was it like the Lion King, with enemies so deeply entrenched in their personal desires that nothing could ever dissuade them from doing evil?

It turns out that Toy Story was a bit of everything. A lot of humor, a bit of drama and a nice helping of adventure and action made Toy Story an instant hit, together with Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang.

The Mythical Lion King

When Lion King first emerged on the international market, both parents and children responded enthusiastically to the story of a young king-cub who was struggling with his changing environment, his pride’s history and the nature of his inheritance as a would-be king.

The benchmark single, “can you feel the love tonight?” crooned to international audiences and took people for a worthy ride through the azure planes of the Pride Lands. A decade after its release, the movie was still speaking to the children of the new generation, and its lasting message of inner strength was still the staple of Disney movies in the years to come.

Aladdin and literally, a whole new world

The year was 1992 and the world was ready for another spectacular offering from none other than the Disney company. Lo and behold, Disney released Aladdin, a story about a thief, a princess and blue genie with funk and style.

Aladdin was one of the few movies at that time that could capture the young hearts and imaginations of those below ten. Those wishing to be adventurous as well as virtuous, and girls who wanted to be strong as well as remain pretty princesses identified immediately with motley and funny crew that composed Aladdin.

Who wouldn’t remember adorable little Pinocchio from Walt Disney Pictures? This little wooden tyke, in his signature yellow apparel, together with his buddy, Jiminy the Cricket has marked the childhood of those born in the nineties and beyond. The lasting lessons of Pinocchio are a clear legacy of the company to children verywhere.

But did you know that the original Pinocchio tale was actually more violent than it appears to be? In the Italian original written by Carlo Collodi, the real Pinocchio gets angry at the cricket for telling him what to do and hurls a hammer at the poor insect. Squish!

High School Musical reaches European audience

The dedicated videos on YouTube should be enough proof that Disney’s current successful series of movies, High School Musical has definitely reached Western European audience. We have a lot of young people creating videos in honor of the movies themselves, though most of them were created through lip-synching and a lot of dancing.

German audiences as well as French audiences were entertained greatly by the cinematography and unique handling of the High School Musical movies- and proved that not even language barriers could get in the way of entertainment and global enjoyment of Disney.

Where did Walt get his ideas?

They say that big ideas comes from a slew of small ones. This can be rightly said for Walt Disney himself, who began his starry love affair with animation at the tender age of twelve. At a young age, Walt began tinkering with an old movie projector and discovered that the illusion of animation formed when similar pictures were put side by side.

The discrepancies were barely noticeable as an animation progressed, and thus, the colored, animated cartoon was brought to life from the depths of an old technology that brought us silent films and the like.
